How many Directorates are within Transport Malta?

Transport Malta is made up of 8 Directorates.

What is a Geoportal?

Transport Malta Geoportal provides a web based means for viewing, editing and discovering geospatial information. The Geoportal contains spatial features TM is in the process of consolidating and also provide open access to attribute information about spatial features.

What information is currently listed on the Geoportal?

The current themes chosen on the Geoportal are:

Core Spatial Data - This particular group is the base reference of the all the Transport layers superimposed upon. Both raster and vector basemap can be utilised. We have also included the coast, streets, Local Councils boundaries and the TenT network.

The Land Transport Theme - The Land Transport theme is showing an approximate location of the Bus Stops and all the Bus Routes. The Bus Routes groups within this theme include bus routes of Malta, the Gozitan Routes and also the direct routes within the Express Group.

The Maritime Theme - includes the 2012 Swimmer Zones, Anchorage and Berth Areas, the Fish farms, Lights, Wrecks and Sea Plane Landing Areas in Valletta and Mgarr (Gozo).

The Projects Theme – Within this theme, we listed the current major Road works projects currently underway in Malta and Gozo and also the Cirkewwa Ferry Terminal.

Residential RoadWorks Programme– This theme includes the Transport Malta programme on the Residential Road Works.

Using the Geoportal, how can I retrieve information?

Users can utilise the search functionality to find a particular street:
Goto Search Tab>Select a Council from the list of Councils> Enter a street name> Click the Search Button.

Click on the returned street from the table provided underneath the Search and the street is pinpointed on the map. If any spatial features are currently on the selected street, select the spatial features and the related attribute information shows up.

Zoom In directly on the map by clicking the Zoom In window (click and drag on the map) on a particular area, select the spatial feature and the attribute information is shown in another panel.

Where can I find additional help to use the Geoportal?

On the right hand side of the Geoportal, one can find a help file to enable the users to use the Geoportal more effectively.

Important to note is that panning is automatically enabled, so user can move the map. On clicking on the arrow next to the Themes within the Layer Panel, the layers grouped within this particular theme are displayed. On clicking further on the arrow next to the layer, a legend pinpointing showing the cartographic design of the map is displayed.
